Les Conditionnels : IF Type 1 et Type 2
Les phrases en IF permettent d'exprimer des conditions et leurs conséquences. "Si... alors..."

If it rains, I will stay home.
→ S'il pleut, je resterai à la maison.
Type 2
Irréel / Hypothétique
Une situation imaginaire ou improbable
If I won the lottery, I would travel.
→ Si je gagnais au loto, je voyagerais.
1Conditionnel Type 1 : Le probable
IF + Present Simple, ... WILL + Base verbale

- • Conséquence probable
- • Prédictions, promesses, menaces
📝 Exemples
- If you study, you will pass.
- → Si tu étudies, tu réussiras.
- If it rains, we will stay home.
- → S'il pleut, nous resterons à la maison.
💡 L'ordre peut changer !
If + présent, ... will + verbe
If you call me, I will help you.
... will + verbe if + présent
I will help you if you call me.
⚠️ Attention : Pas de virgule quand IF est en 2ème position !
2Conditionnel Type 2 : L'hypothétique
IF + Past Simple, ... WOULD + Base verbale
🎯 Quand l'utiliser ?
- • Situation imaginaire ou improbable
- • Rêves, souhaits
- • Conseils ("If I were you...")
📝 Exemples
- If I won the lottery, I would buy a house.
- → Si je gagnais au loto, j'achèterais une maison.
- If I had more time, I would travel.
- → Si j'avais plus de temps, je voyagerais.
⚠️ Cas particulier : IF I WERE
Dans le conditionnel type 2, on utilise traditionnellement WERE pour toutes les personnes (même I, he, she, it) :
If I were you, I would apologize.
→ Si j'étais toi, je m'excuserais.
If she were here, she would help.
→ Si elle était là, elle aiderait.
Note : "If I was" est aussi accepté à l'oral, mais "were" est plus formel.
3Type 1 vs Type 2 : La différence

🌧️ Type 1 : C'est possible
If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.
→ Il pourrait pleuvoir demain. C'est réaliste.
🦋 Type 2 : C'est imaginaire
If I were a bird, I would fly.
→ Je ne suis pas un oiseau. C'est un rêve.
4Variations avec d'autres modaux
On peut remplacer WILL/WOULD par d'autres modaux selon le sens :
Type 1
- CAN : If you study, you can pass.
- MAY : If it stops raining, we may go out.
- MUST : If you go, you must call me.
Type 2
- COULD : If I had time, I could help you.
- MIGHT : If he came, he might enjoy it.
!Erreurs à éviter
❌ If I will see him, I will tell him.
✅ If I see him, I will tell him.
Jamais de WILL après IF dans le type 1 !
❌ If I would have money, I would buy it.
✅ If I had money, I would buy it.
Jamais de WOULD après IF dans le type 2 !
